The Solar System is Really Big.....

Today in Science we learned that the distances between the planets are much more than we could have imagined. We used this website (we weren't able to finish it - it takes a very long time) to scroll through the planets. If you have a moment - albeit a very long moment - you may be interested in checking it out. It definitely gave our class an appreciation for the distances between the planets!

Math Test Friday!

This Friday we will have a math test to finish up our unit on Measurement. For this test, students need to:

  • understand the difference between linear, square and cubic units.
  • find the perimeter of shapes
  • convert between units of length, capacity and mass
  • find the area of rectangles, parallelograms and triangles
  • find the surface area of rectangular prisms and triangular prisms
  • find the volume of rectangular prisms and triangular prisms
  • when given the area or volume (of any of the above shapes), find  the value of a missing dimension (eg. If the area of a rectangle is 24 square cm, and the base is 4cm, what is the height?)
  • convert between square meters and square centimeters (1 square meter  = 10,000 square cm)
Here are links to all of the blog posts I have done during this unit so that students can study for the test. We will be doing review sheets in class as well. Students can study at home by doing Prodigy (I will force out measurement questions), or by dong any of the activities in the Blendspace units.

Math Homework March 1

Spirit Week March 6 - 10

We take the time of Lent to teach the children about being a light in the darkness. One of the ways children can let their light shine is by helping others. The week of March 6 is a fundraising Spirit week. Each student is encouraged to bring in a loonie, a toonie each day and participate in the fun. Funds will go to our Lenten initiatives.

 March 6 – PJ Day
 March 7 – Stuffy Day
 March 8 – Jersey Day
March 9 – Lion School Spirit Day
 March 10 – Tacky Tourist

40 Act Challenge for Lent!

Lent is a time when we think of others and try to make better choices. We do works of charity and make sacrifices to help others. During this Lenten season, we're challenging all the Lions of St. Anne to complete 40 Acts. We call it “The 40 Act Challenge”! At the beginning of each day, we will read out a challenge act for you to complete at some point during the day. You may complete the act as often as you want. It can be for anyone: friends, classmates, someone you see on the yard, teachers, and other staff in the school. You can also continue this when you go home at the end of the day with your parents, brothers, sisters, and grandparents. This is a special way for all of us to come together and show how much we care for our St. Anne Lion Family. Remember, we're all in this together – all students and all staff. Let's make these 40 days an opportunity to make a difference.
